Industrial diversification / other sectors

In the past, the MRC La Côte-de-Gaspé relied on traditional sectors such as the fisheries, tourism and forestry for its livelihood. Although these sectors continue to be economic mainstays here, the MRC now intends to foster diversification by developing new business opportunities and advanced technologies.

The region's many expanses of water, local expertise, the availability of commercial and industrial space, fiscal advantages and special programs make the MRC La Côte-de-Gaspé a choice location for any business project involving sectors such as aquaculture and marine biotechnologies, or wind energy.

Tourism is a key vector of the economy in the MRC La Côte-de-Gaspé and is likely to grow. There are still many fine development opportunities in both the traditional tourism sector and in recreational tourism (ecotourism and adventure tourism).

Forillon National Park of Canada and the proximity of Percé Rock ensure high rates of tourist traffic throughout the sector.
