Consortium en foresterie Gaspésie-Les-Îles

Ministère des Ressources naturelles, de la Faune et des Parcs

The forest covers almost 2 million hectares in Gaspésie, 96% of the territory, hence it’s great importance for the economic and social development of the region. The Gaspésie’s public forest has a vigorous and abundant regeneration, easily comparable to other regions of Québec.

Industry profile
Various experts in the Gaspésie Îles-de-la-Madeleine forestry sector describe a contemporary and distinguishing approach to development in the forest’s transformation industry in Gaspésie which meets new criteria for excellence. The proximity of transport infrastructures for merchandise is a plus for the M.R.C. La Côte-de-Gaspé.

The region’s traditional resource economy tends toward diversification and an orientation favoring secondary and tertiary transformation of the resource: rafters, beams and latticed supports.

Active economic sectors
