Industry profile
We are experiencing a turn around with respect to the means used to produce energy. The new solutions utilise non-polluting and renewable energy sources.
The two vectors of development are macro and micro systems. In Europe and Japan renewable energy technologies are developing rapidly, furnishing thousands of megawatts of industrial energy at increasingly competitive rates with respect to traditional energy sources.
There are two important wind parks in Gaspésie, and the potential for development is excellent at Murdochville and Rivière-au-Renard, sites already targeted by the wind energy group at UQAR.
The presence of a wind energy techno center at Gaspé facilitates technology transfer as well as research and development in this sector of activity.
There is no difficulty in terms of space or environmental concerns at Gaspé.
The sources of renewable energy which are presently in use or which could be in use shortly are:
- water movement (tides, currents, etc.)
- wind
- biomass
- solar energy
Active economic sectors
The production of wind energy, the fabrication of wind energy generators or of specialized equipment destined to assist in the production of wind energy.
Research and development on wind energy generation. (An expertise based on the quest for economically viable solutions which are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Also, small scale or micro-solutions.)
The expertise developed with respect to wind and wind energy, which is exportable, particularly to developing countries interested in such renewable sources of energy production.
